2 Bicyclists Killed After Being Struck by Car in Salem County, New Jersey, State Police Say

Tragedy on the Road

Two bicyclists lost their lives in a tragic accident in Salem County, New Jersey, on Saturday, according to the state police.

The victims, identified as 55-year-old Richard DeLacey and 59-year-old John DelCorso, were riding their bicycles on Monroeville Road in Upper Pittsgrove Township when they were struck by a car.

The driver of the car, 22-year-old Michael Nevius, has been charged with two counts of reckless vehicular homicide, two counts of assault by auto, and driving while intoxicated.

Fatal Impact

The accident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Saturday evening.

According to the police, Nevius was driving a 2018 Honda Civic when he crossed the center line and struck the bicyclists head-on.

DeLacey and DelCorso were pronounced dead at the scene. Nevius and his passenger, 21-year-old Jessica Smith, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation Ongoing

The New Jersey State Police are investigating the accident.

According to the police, Nevius was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Nevius has been charged with two counts of reckless vehicular homicide, two counts of assault by auto, and driving while intoxicated.

Community in Mourning

The deaths of DeLacey and DelCorso have sent shockwaves through the community.

Both men were well-known and respected members of the local cycling community.

A memorial ride is being planned to honor their memory.
